Mike Royko The Chicago Tribune Collection 19841997 is an expansive new volume of the longtime Chicago news legend’s work. Encompassing thousands of his columns, all of which originally appeared in the Chicago Tribune, this is the first collection of Royko work to solely cover his time at the Tribune. Covering politics, culture, sports, and more, Royko brings his trademark sarcasm and cantankerous wit to a complete compendium of his last 14 years as a newspaper man.
Organized chronologically, these columns display Royko's talent for crafting fictional conversations that reveal the truth of the small-minded in our society. From cagey political points to hysterical take-downs of "meatball" sports fans, Royko's writing was beloved and anticipated anxiously by his fans. In plain language, he "tells it like it is" on subjects relevant to modern society. In addition to his columns, the book features Royko's obituary and articles written about him after his death, telling the tale of his life and success.
This ultimate collection is a must-read for Royko fans, longtime Chicago Tribune readers, and Chicagoans who love the city's rich history of dedicated and insightful journalism.

I grew up reading Mike, and this many columns for this price has made me a very happy reader. Royko is one of the most prolific writers, producing a daily column for a great number of years. He describes 20th century life in the midwest just as it is, the good and the bad. His recurring characters will become friends forever. This writer deserves a high place in the pantheon of American writers.Product details

Mike Royko The Chicago Tribune Collection 19841997 edition by Mike Royko John Kass Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
Oh, Mike..... I still miss ready you everyday!!!!Give us some help up there...... The Cubs will WIN it this year! RIP
This is a collection that Mike Royko fans have been waiting for for a long time. Now we need all of his columns from the earlier papers! This is a must-have!
Always a treat to read Royko. I read it first hand back 'in the day' living in Chicago, and I still laugh at his ascerbic prose
Relive the Chicago past in a most amazing way. Royko was great to read back then. He is even more interesting to read today!
I remember reading Mr Royko's column years ago so when I found a compilation of his musings, I HAD to have it. He does not disappoint! I bought the kindle edition and sometimes it's hard to read as the kindle is shaking from me laughing so hard. Take a break and relax (and laugh a LOT) with Mike Royko!!
I was a teenager when I moved to Chicago, and discovered Mike Royko in the now defunct Chicago Daily News. Then I read his work in the Chicago Sun-Times. But I left Chicago before he moved to the Tribune, so these are like discovering buried treasure. WOW! A whole bunch of his work that I had never read! And, since so many of these columns were written in the year before a presidential election, they seem very up-to-date. Just change the names, and you have current news. I guess some things just don't change. Royko's sharp intellect and wit make it obvious why he won a Pulitzer for his biography of the late Mayor Richard Daley -- "Boss".
Thoroughly THOROUGHLY enjoy reading this book. As a former Chicagoan, it has as much interesting historical material as it does classic Royko social philosophy and content. The book is especially interesting because his writings are published in chronological order. Reliving the Council Wars of the '80s is funny as hell. His indictment of Yuppies hilarious.
Wish Royko was still here to comment on the billionaire A-holes who Facebook. Too bad he missed out on the miserable Millennial generation as a source for material.
